Star Wars The Old Republic Exploits = Ban
BioWare has today confirmed it’s temporarily banned Star Wars: The Old Republic players for “exploiting” an end-game world.
The issue resolves around players visiting the high-end Ilum planet before their character has reached the recommended level of 40, and somehow managing to make it to the chests and boxes containing all the rare loot.
The suggestion that BioWare was blocking players for the practice first appeared on social networks over the weekend.
The SWTOR community was expectedly outraged, but BioWare’s now come out to insist it’s only punished players who’ve “systematically and repeatedly” broken the rules to damage the MMO’s in-game economy.
A BioWare statement states on the official forums:
“To be completely clear, while players may choose to travel to Ilum earlier than the recommended level (40+) and may loot containers if they can get to them, in the cases of those customers that were warned or temporarily suspended, they were systematically and repeatedly looting containers in very high numbers resulting in the game economy becoming unbalanced.
“None of these accounts were [permanently] banned for their actions and no accounts have been banned for travelling to Ilum while still relatively low level.”
BioWare went on to confirm it’s set to make adjustments to Ilum in the near future to discourage future exploits, “however, the planet is still open to anyone who wishes to travel there.”
