PS4 Release and Xbox 720 Release Known At E3
Sony and Microsoft are BOTH set to show off next generation consoles at E3 2012 in June, and give details of the console release dates.
That’s according to reports by MCV, which is reporting that PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 will make their debuts at the show, as Nintendo details its Wii U launch line-up.
In July last year Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot sent the rumour mill into overdrive by suggesting that Sony will be forced into rush-releasing PS4 as a response to Nintendo’s Wii U release.
A month later Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan shrugged off Guillemot’s statements, implying that there wouldn’t be a new PlayStation anytime soon.
US retailer GameStop also said it doesn’t expect Microsoft and Sony to launch next generation home consoles until 2014.
However, later last year Jim Ryan stated that allowing Microsoft to get the jump on the PlayStation 4 with its next console would be an “undesirable” situation Sony hopes to avoid, indicating it’s eager to get its new system out there before the new Xbox.
A patent discovered earlier this week has suggested that Microsoft intends its new console to be a digital video recorder, along with a game console.
