Let's hop back to earth year 1998 to explain the N
phenomenon and its origins. Twas back then and while
playing Mysteries of the Sith that the idea of a uber-plapping
squad first reared its ugly head and once the game and
its community was on the decline, and with RTCW coming
soon, the noobs as we know them today started taking
form.
Originally, Newbies Inc. comprised of Waz, Soul, Vaporz,
cRo and PreDD - all still members and all still gaming
in some form or another. Of course, along the way we've
grown, with some great players joining us - Ratteh,
Rizzoh, Morgn, Fred, Zeffl, Christos, eXcession, Borax,
HoneyB, CrazyCrackah and Daboss all coming from the
RTCW/CoD scene, but the fact that we've kept the core
together for ten years speaks volumes about what being
a noob is all about. Gamers and clans come and go, but
once you've tasted N: power you're generally here
to stay.
So the feck what?
Okay none of that matters. The fact is, we're a small
bunch of gamers that have a fair amount of ability considering
our attitude to gaming. We reached dizzy heights in
Clanbase leagues for both RTCW and Call of Duty, and
I'm sure we could have gone even further if we'd really
given a damn. Just to be playing the big guns of e-sports
was great, but competing and even beating them was just
the icing on the cake, at least that's how I see it.
And I realise that since you have read this far, you
fall into one of two categories. You're either;
a) One of the Newbies Inc. team or Dark Omen
crew, just reading what egotistic crap has been written
about them..
- or -
b) You've just been humbled by us on a server,
and can't quite understand how or why it happened.
All I can tell you is don't take it personally. You're
certainly not the first and you won't be the last person
that's come here looking for justification. I can't
tell you the how or the why, I really can't explain
it, never could. All I can tell you is Newbies Inc.
is here to stay. The rest, as they say, is history.
Speaking of which...
Without further adieu, I give you the complete history
of Newbies Incorporated [pause for applause].

Our MoTS days can only be described as our infancy years
in online gaming, but the potential was evident for all
to see. What started as a few guys trying to make a name
within a community of a few thousand gamers, rapidly ascended
into a tight bunch of gamers, striving to get to the very
top. Which we did. The GraveDiggaz Syndicate (GDS) kicked
ass first and took names later. The community didn't like
us much, since it was a mainly American based arena, but
we soon got respect, with a variety of tournament wins
and placings to our name, through the ability of cRo (Cargo
Soldiers), Venom (aka Waz, FFA Cargo Soldiers, Full Force
Teams), Vapz (Bounty Hunters), and Predd (Full Force,
Full Force Teams).
Sadly however, the community started to decline, and
we started to look elsewhere for our gaming thrills,
whilst creating a number of amusingly titled alias clans
to mess with the American's heads while something came
along. First came the Sheep Extermination Squad (SES)
who proceded to destroy everyone in their path whilst
refusing to talk in anything other than CAPITALS, swiftly
followed by the creation of Newbies Incorporated.
And it wasn't long before RTCW hit the scene, and the
name Newbies Inc. stuck. No longer would we fight them
in the Spaceport, from now on, we'd be fighting dem
on zee beaches.

Pretty much all the original MoTS players made it to RTCW
in tact and we had an instant impact on the community.
But it wasn't long before we decided to bolster our squad,
first poaching Rizzoh and Laak from our second official
game against Love
Dies Bleeding and then followed by the arrival of
Maj, KFC (fRed), eXcession (tds_dave) and Pvt, all coming
as one tidy, yet stoned, gaming package. And yes, in the
early days, we used tags like =[Sgt]=NEWBIE, mainly to
underline our nubness.
There were a few others along the way, but after the
RTCW scene started to get all political with the growth
of clanbase, Newbies Inc. took a backseat for a while,
as Muppet Labs took over, a clan formed from our hardcore
members who wanted to take the game a little more seriously,
mainly to see just how far we could go. With Muppet
Labs, came the arrival of Christos, Daboss, Borax, Honey
B and Ratteh, all talented players who fitted the newbie
profile perfectly, and it wasn't long before we started
making people take note, constantly hovering around
the top of the clanbase ladders.
Our RTCW days were filled with some incredible moments,
and some immensely enjoyable gaming, but as with all
good things it had to come to an end, with Enemy Territory
splitting the community for the simple reason that it
was free. And it was good too, but with the hitboxes
designed for the non-aimers, the challenge just wasn't
there and it was time to move on. So move on we did.

Just as boredom was setting in, Call of Duty arrived and
most of us took an instant liking to the style of the
game. The no-respawn style was fairly new to most of us,
but we adapted well and soon became a name on the scene.
And with Call of Duty came Zeffl, who with a RTCW background,
slotted in nicely.
Much like the tail end of the RTCW days, we took our
Call of Duty gaming pretty seriously, playing 120 matches
in a short space of time, against every decent team
that would play us. But the culmination of our time
in Call of Duty was undoubtedly the fight for the vacated
top spot in Clanbase between ourselves, and DoG, which
we won to the utter disbelief of an extremely strong
community.
Soon after this, a few of the top teams started taking
to World of Warcraft, leaving Clanbase wide open, and
with a cheap forfeit win against us due to an invalid
GUID, after beating
FcUK with ease, we decided enough was enough. The
lamers had seemingly taken over the building.
What's next, please?

Surprisingly, at this point we still hadn't given in
to World of Warcraft, and we continued looking for the
next best first person shooter. In fact, in all honesty,
we still do!
Counter Strike Source seemed to fit the bill. But after
three games, three wins, we could see something wasn't
right with the gaming scene as a whole, with MMO's stripping
the scene of alot of its most talented gamers.
And we didn't stop there. We have tried to love other
shooters, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars to name just one,
we really did, but at this point in history, it was
inevitably time to.. *shock horror* sample the world
of Azeroth.
Of course, we'd be playing some heavy duty Pro Evolution
Soccer, Trackmania, Turbosliders, not to mention our
arcade..
along the way, but until a decent shooter comes along,
MMO's could concievably be our home. What the feck is
going on?

Surprisingly, despite the apparent lack of real skill
necessary, World of Warcraft became our home for the
new couple of years. Firstly on Dragonmaw as Winyars
Pendar (that's Newbies Inc. in Elvish) where we had
lots of fun without actually progressing anywhere end
game, and then on Ravenholdt.
And it was on Ravenholdt where we came across a guild
named Dark Omen, who were demonstrating exactly how
advanced the game could be with a little understanding
and application. To our surprise, World of Warcraft
offered much more than we had thought, and the guys
from Dark Omen, specifically the likes of Bung, Bladey
and Wilber, had a remarkably similar gaming ethos and
background to the Newbies Inc. guys. A gaming alliance
of uberness was about to be formed.
Dark Omen went from strength to strength on Ravenholdt,
taking server firsts at every opportunity, and it was
THE guild to be in on the server. This continued for
a lengthy period of time, but when Bung and Bladey decided
to take a break from the politics of guild management
(there was actually little for us to progress to at
the time), it looked as though Dark Omen's days were
coming to an end. Being left with only a dozen members
certainly made it seem that way. But Wilber wasn't having
any of it, and when he put the idea to Waz that they
should rebuild the Omen name, it was decided, and the
Omenites were to return.
Return they most certainly did too, recruiting fresh
blood and progressing even further than the guild had
previously, once again becoming THE place to be on the
server. This continued right through to and throughout
The Burning Crusade, and with the return of Bung and
Bladey plus the addition of Ghengis the guild was in
good hands. But sadly, before long, cracks had started
to appear again. Not so much within the guild that was
still hitting dizzy heights, but rather in the game
itself. Farming wasn't fun when it's needed 24/7 and
it wasn't long before many of the top guilds started
disbanding and the server and the game was effectively
dying before our very eyes.
Maybe the Wrath of the Lich King will see Dark Omen
gracing Azeroth again.. only time will tell.

At the time of writing (July 09) we're still waiting for
a decent first person shooter to arrive. You'll probably
find many of us plapping Left4Dead, Quake Live, Enemy
Territory: Quake Wars, World of Warcraft and Call of Duty
4 among other games, but we're mainly looking for somewhere
that we can call home, once again.
Wolfenstein may be the next port of call and while we're
sincerely hoping it's great, we're not holding our breath.
Basically, until we do find a decent game to play competitively,
we're just a ticking timebomb waiting to explode.
The rest of our history is waiting to be written and we
hope that in some way, shape or form, you are a part of
it, whether you're plapping it to the extreme with us,
or finding yourselves at the other end of our crosshairs,
probably waiting for a revive :P
